Possible Causes

A left-side crash sensor mounting failure could be caused by damaged wiring, damaged left-side crash sensor or corrosion or dirt on sensor mounting surface.
- Check for hard or intermittent DTC
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See USING SCAN TOOL under DIAGNOSTICS. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Retrieve and record any continuous DTCs. See RETRIEVING FAULT CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform on-demand self-test. See ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC B2441 was retrieved during on-demand self-test, go to next step. If DTC B2441 was not retrieved, fault is intermittent. Go to step 5 . - Check side crash sensor mounting
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove left-side crash sensor. See SIDE AIR BAG CRASH SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Visually inspect crash sensor mounting bracket and mounting surface for damage, corrosion or dirt. Ensure mounting bolts are fully seated and tightened correctly. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . If significant amount of corrosion or dirt is found, sensor mounting bracket attached to mounting surface incorrectly, or sensor retain bolts are not fully seated, repair or replace as necessary. Ensure sensor mounting bracket and mounting surface is free of damage, corrosion or dirt and mounting bolts are fully seated and correctly tightened. Reattach sensor and mounting bracket to mounting surface and go to step 6 . If sensor, mounting surface and mounting bolts are okay, go to next step. - Check side crash sensor harness connection
Inspect side crash sensor harness connector. If side crash sensor harness connector is connected to sensor correctly, go to next step. If side crash sensor harness connector is not connected to sensor correctly, attach correctly and go to step 6 . - Check chassis ground
Measure resistance between a known-good chassis ground and side crash sensor mounting surface. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, repair grounding system. Go to step 6 . If resistance is less than 100 ohms, replace left-side crash sensor. Go to step 6 . - Check for intermittent fault
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Refer to continuous DTCs recorded in step 1 . If DTC retrieved in step 1 was a intermittent fault, check for cause of intermittent mounting failure. Attempt to recreate fault by flexing wire harness and cycling ignition switch frequently. Repair any intermittent problems found. Go to next step. If DTC retrieved in step 1 was not a intermittent fault, go to next step. - Check for additional DTCs
Refer to continuous DTCs recorded in step 1 . If any continuous DTCs were retrieved, go to diagnostic trouble code identification table for direction to appropriate test. DO NOT clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION table. If no DTCs were retrieved, reconnect air bag system. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Prove out system. See PROVE OUT SYSTEM under DIAGNOSTICS. Clear all DTCs. See CLEARING FAULT CODES under DIAGNOSTICS.
