Preliminary Inspection
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Perform the following preliminary inspection before attempting any other diagnostic or trouble shooting procedure.
- Determine if installed system is an aftermarket system. If an aftermarket system is installed, refer to owner's aftermarket system manual for diagnostic procedure. If system is original equipment, go to next step.
- Determine if customer attempted to activate system while ignition switch was in ON position. Anti-theft/keyless entry system will only activate when ignition switch is in LOCK position. If malfunction occurred while ignition switch was in LOCK position, go to next step.
- Determine if customer experienced problems in a specific location, such as being near TV towers, power plant, power lines or factories. Outside interference from these sources may cause system to malfunction. If problem is not specific to a certain area, go to next step.
- Determine if any aftermarket equipment is installed on vehicle such as cellular phone, radio wave equipment, remote engine starter or TV. If aftermarket equipment is installed, disconnect it and try to operate anti-theft/keyless entry system. If anti-theft/keyless entry system now operates normally, inform customer that aftermarket equipment is interfering with anti-theft/keyless entry system operation. If system still does not operate normally, or if no aftermarket equipment is installed, go to next step.
- Perform system diagnostic function check. See DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION CHECK . If system performed diagnostic function check as specified, go to next step. If system did not perform diagnostic function check as specified, go to step 7 .
- Attempt to reprogram keyless control module ID code. See CHANGING KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE ID CODE under PROGRAMMING. If you were able to reprogram keyless control module ID code, system is operating normally at this time. If you were unable to reprogram keyless control module ID code, go to TEST NO. 3: TRANSMITTER ID CODE CANNOT BE REPROGRAMMED under SYSTEM TESTS.
- While performing diagnostic function check, if any diagnostic functions worked, go to TEST NO. 1: ONE OR MORE DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTIONS INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS. If no diagnostic functions worked, go to TEST NO. 2: ALL DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTIONS INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS.
