Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform diagnostic function check. See DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If all functions operated as specified, go to step  11 . If all functions did not operate as specified, go to next step.
  2. If horn sounded during diagnostic function check, go to step  5 . If horn did not sound during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  3. Depress horn switch. If horn sounds, go to next step. If horn does not sound, repair horn circuit as necessary. See HORN in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect theft deterrent control module and horn relay connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity on Green/Red wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2C and horn relay connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity is indicated, replace theft deterrent control module. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit in Green/Red wire between theft deterrent control module connector terminal 2C and horn relay connector. After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  5. If headlights flashed during diagnostic function check, go to step  8 . If headlights did not flash during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  6. Turn headlight switch on. If headlights turn on, go to next step. If headlights do not turn on, repair headlight circuit. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  7. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect keyless control module and headlight relay connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity on White/Red wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2E and headlight relay connector. If continuity is indicated, replace theft deterrent control module. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit in White/Red wire between theft deterrent control module connector terminal 2E and headlight relay connector. After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  8. If hazard warning lights flashed during diagnostic function check, recheck malfunction symptoms. If malfunction reoccurs, go back to step  1 . If hazard warning lights did not flash during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  9. Turn hazard warning light switch on. If hazard warning lights flash, go to next step. If hazard warning lights do not flash, repair hazard warning light circuit. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
  10. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect theft deterrent control module and flasher control module connectors. Using DVOM, check for continuity on Blue wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2 terminal 2S and flasher control module connector. See ANTI-THEFT in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If continuity is indicated, replace theft deterrent control module. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit in Blue wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2E and flasher control module connector. After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  11. If all doors unlocked and locked, then driver's door unlocked as specified during diagnostic function check, recheck malfunction symptoms. If malfunction reoccurs, go back to step  1 and retest. If all doors did not lock and unlock as specified during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  12. Manually operate all inner door lock knobs to ensure that all doors lock and unlock. If all locks function properly, go to next step. If any locks do not function properly, locate and repair problem with door lock linkage.
  13. If all doors unlocked as specified during diagnostic function check, go to step  21 . If any door locks did not lock as specified during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  14. Attempt to unlock all doors from driver's door lock switch. If all doors unlock from driver's door lock switch, go to step  20 . If all doors do not unlock from driver's door lock switch, go to next step.
  15. Measure voltage, by backprobing, between Light Green/Black wire at driver door lock switch connector and ground. Voltage should be about 2.5 volts with driver door lock switch in lock position and zero volts with driver door lock switch in unlock position. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, go to step  17 .
  16. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect theft deterrent control module. Ground theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2O (Green wire). If all doors unlock, replace theft deterrent control module. If all doors do not unlock, repair power door lock system. After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  17. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect theft deterrent control module. Ground theft deterrent control module connector terminal 2O (Green wire). If all doors unlock, go to next step. If all doors do not unlock, repair power door lock system. After repairs, go to step  24 .
  18. Disconnect driver door lock switch connector. Measure voltage between Light Green/Black wire at driver door lock switch connector and ground. If voltage is about 5 volts, check driver door lock switch. If voltage is not about 5 volts, go to next step.
  19. Disconnect theft deterrent control module. Check continuity in Light Green/Black wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2J and driver door lock switch. If continuity is indicated, replace theft deterrent control module. If continuity is not indicated, repair open circuit in Light Green/Black wire between theft deterrent control module connector No. 2, terminal 2J and driver door switch connector. After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  20. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect keyless control module connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage at keyless control module connector terminal "K" (Green wire). If voltage reading is about 5 volts, replace keyless control module. Reprogram keyless control module ID code. See CHANGING KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE ID CODE  under PROGRAMMING. If voltage reading is not about 5 volts, repair faulty circuit in Green wire between keyless control module connector terminal "K" and door lock control module connector terminal "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After performing either repair, go to step  24 .
  21. If all doors locked, and driver's door unlocked as specified during diagnostic function check, recheck malfunction symptoms. If malfunction reoccurs, go back to step  1 and retest. If door locks did not lock, and driver's door did not unlock as specified during diagnostic function check, go to next step.
  22. Insert ignition key into driver's door lock cylinder. Attempt to lock all doors, then unlock driver's door. If all locks operate as specified, go to next step. If all locks do not operate as specified, locate and repair fault in driver's door lock switch circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  23. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect keyless control module connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage at keyless control module connector terminal "O" (Light Green wire). If voltage reading is about 5 volts, replace keyless control module. Reprogram keyless control module ID code. See CHANGING KEYLESS CONTROL MODULE ID CODE  under PROGRAMMING. If voltage reading is not about 5 volts, repair faulty circuit in Light Green wire between keyless control module connector terminal "O" and door lock control module connector terminal "H". See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After performing either repair, go to next step.
  24. Recheck anti-theft/keyless entry system operation. If system is functioning properly, repairs are complete. If system is still malfunctioning, go back to step  1 and retest system.
