Test No. 19: Key Reminder Buzzer Does Not Sound With Any Door Open (Key In Ignition)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check ROOM (15-amp) fuse. If ROOM fuse is okay, go to next step. If ROOM fuse is blown, repair wiring and replace fuse. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  2. Remove driver's front scuff plate. Remove driver's kick panel. Remove CPU from joint box. Measure voltage between ground and joint box terminal 1J. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair wiring between ROOM (15-amp) fuse and CPU.
  3. Check for continuity between ground and joint box terminal 1G. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair wiring between CPU and ground.
  4. Place key in ignition. Measure voltage between ground and joint box terminal 1B. If battery voltage exists, go to step  7 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  5. Remove steering column cover. Measure voltage between ground and key reminder switch terminal "A". See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair wiring between ROOM (15-amp) fuse and key reminder switch.
  6. Measure voltage between ground and key reminder switch terminal "B". If battery voltage exists, repair wiring between CPU and key reminder switch. If battery voltage does not exist, replace ignition lock.
  7. Open any door. Check for continuity between ground and joint box terminal 1I. If continuity exists, replace CPU. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  8. Remove door switch. Check for continuity between switch terminal and switch body. Continuity should exist when button is released. Continuity should not exist when button is pressed. If door switch is okay, repair wiring between CPU and door switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If door switch is faulty, replace door switch.
