Test No. 13: Fuel Level Warning Light Does Not Illuminate With Fuel Tank Almost Empty & Engine Running

  1. Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable. After more than 30 seconds, reconnect negative battery cable. Cycle ignition switch to ON position, then LOCK position, 3 times. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Push trip reset button 3 times. Push trip reset button until DTC 16 is reached. If fuel level warning light turns on and off 3 times, go to next step. If fuel level warning light does not turn on and off 3 times, go to step  4 .
  2. Push trip reset button until DTC 22 is reached. If LCD indicates 000, go to next step. If LCD does not indicate 000, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect fuel pump connector. Check for continuity between ground and instrument cluster harness connector No. 2, terminal 2E. See Figure . If continuity exists, repair wiring between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sending unit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect instrument cluster connector. Check for continuity between instrument cluster connector No. 2, terminal 2E and instrument cluster connector No. 4, terminal 4F. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, replace printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
