DTC 24: Temperature Input Signal

- Using manufacturer's instructions, connect Mazda Fuel & Thermometer Checker (49 N088 0A0). Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect negative battery cable for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect cable. Turn ignition switch from LOCK to ON position 3 times. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Press odometer/tripmeter button 3 times. Using odometer/tripmeter button, select DTC 24. If LCD indicates 000 or 255, go to step 5 . If LCD indicates any code between 001-254, go to next step.
- Disconnect water temperature sending unit harness connector. Connect Red lead of Mazda Fuel & Thermometer Checker to water temperature sending unit harness connector terminal and Black lead to ground. Set rheostat on checker to 23 ohms. If LCD indicates 086-092, go to next step. If LCD does not indicate 086-092, replace water temperature gauge.
- With Mazda Fuel & Thermometer Checker connected as in previous step, set rheostat on checker to 120 ohms. If LCD indicates 185-191, go to next step. If LCD does not indicate 185-191, replace water temperature gauge and retest system.
- With Mazda Fuel & Thermometer Checker connected as in step 2) , set rheostat on checker to 230 ohms. If LCD indicates 213-218, go to next step. If LCD does not indicate 213-218, replace water temperature gauge and retest system.
- Remove and check water temperature gauge sending unit. See TEMPERATURE GAUGE INOPERATIVE OR INCORRECT under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If sending unit is okay, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If water temperature gauge sending unit is faulty, replace water temperature gauge sending unit and retest system.
