Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mazda Millenia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CMP sensor is located on right front of engine. Remove CMP sensor, leaving electrical connector connected. Using analog voltmeter (or oscilloscope), connect negative lead to CMP sensor ground (CMP body or Black/Blue wire).
  2. With positive voltmeter lead, backprobe Blue/Red wire at CMP connector. Turn ignition on. Rotate CMP shaft and observe voltage reading. Voltmeter should indicate one voltage pulse (5 volts) per revolution. Replace CMP sensor as necessary.
