Disconnect (R-Clip Fitting)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mazda Tribute, 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2003 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: DO NOT smoke or carry an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and can be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before repairing or disconnecting any of the fuel lines or fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
  1. Relieve the fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  2. Remove the shipping tab by bending downward. See Fig 1.
  3. Spread the R-clip legs and push the clip into the fitting. See Fig 2.
  4. Separate the fitting from the tube. See Fig 3.
