Removal & Installation (B4000)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Mazda Tribute, 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2003 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. See AIR CLEANER OUTLET PIPE .
  3. Disconnect the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve and the Throttle Position (TP) sensor harness connectors. See Fig 1.
  4. Disconnect the accelerator and cruise control cables. See Figure.
  5. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose. See Fig 2.
  6. Loosen the clamp and disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose. See Fig 3.
  7. CAUTION: It is important to twist the spark plug wire boots while pulling upward to avoid possible damage to the spark plug wire.
    NOTE: Spark plug wires must be connected to the correct ignition coil terminal. Mark spark plug wire locations before removing them.
  8. Disconnect the right side spark plug wires from coil. Remove spark plug wire routing clip push-pin and position the wires aside. See Fig 4.
  9. Remove wiring harness bracket retainer, then position wiring harness aside. See Fig 5.
  10. Remove accelerator cable routing retainer clip and wiring harness push-pin. See Fig 6.
  11. Remove the ignition coil bracket bolts. See Fig 7.
  12. Remove the bolt and position the coil and bracket aside. See Fig 8.
  13. Disconnect the vacuum hoses. See Fig 9.
  14. Remove the nut. See Fig 10.
  15. Disconnect the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connector. See Fig 11.
  16. Disconnect the ground wires and position the wiring harness aside. See Fig 12.
  17. Detach the harness connector retainer. See Fig 13.
  18. Remove the intake manifold bolts and lift up the intake manifold. See Fig 14.
  19. Remove the heated PCV hose retainers and remove the heated PCV fitting. See Fig 15.
  20. Remove the intake manifold.
  21. To install, reverse the removal procedure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE: Clean all the sealing surfaces before installation.
