Inspection (MAZDA6 - 3.0L)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, 2003 Mazda MPV, and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure no DTCs related to Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor are present. If no DTCS related to APP sensor are present, go to next step. If any DTCs related to APP sensor are present, perform diagnostic procedure for those DTCs first. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - MAZDA6 3.0L article.
  2. Connect WDS to DLC-2. Go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on, engine off. Go to next step.
  4. Select TP1 or TP2 PID on WDS. Go to next step.
  5. Verify TP1 or TP2 PID changes smoothly while throttle valve is gradually opened. If as verified, go to next step. If not as verified, check for open or short circuit. Go to step  7.
  6. Verify TP1 or TP2 PID are as specified in THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR PID SPECIFICATIONS  table. If PID values are as specified, check for open or short circuit in wire harness. Go to next step. If PID values are not as specified, replace throttle body.
  7. Open Circuit Inspection

Check for continuity between following terminals:
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "C" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 63.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "D" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 20.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "E" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 36.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "F" and PCM 104-pin harness connector terminal No. 89.

If continuity is present between all terminals, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open circuit in suspect wire or replace wire harness.

  8. Short Circuit Inspection

    Check for continuity between following:
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "C" and power supply.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "C" and body ground.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "D" and power supply.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "D" and body ground.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "E" and power supply.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "F" and power supply.
    • Throttle body 6-pin harness connector terminal "F" and body ground.

If continuity is present, repair short circuit in suspect wire or replace wire harness.
