Canister Drain Cut Valve (CDCV)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda Protege5, 2003 Mazda Protege, 2003 Mazda MX-5 Miata, 2003 Mazda MPV, and 2003 Mazda 6. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Airflow Inspection

Disconnect CDCV 2-pin harness connector and remove CDCV, located next to charcoal canister under vehicle at spare tire well. See Figure. Blow air into CDCV port "A". See Fig 1. Air should flow from port "B". Using fused jumper wires, apply battery voltage to CDCV terminals. Blow air into port "A". Air should not flow from port "B". If CDCV is operating as specified, check for open or short circuit. Go to next step. If CDCV does not operate as specified, replace CDCV.
  2. Open Circuit Inspection

Remove PCM. Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Connect 104-Pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure. Check for continuity between following terminals:
    • CDCV harness connector terminal "A" and main relay 4-pin harness connector terminal "D" (White/Red wire).
    • CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and breakout box terminal No. 18 (Yellow wire) through common connector.
  3. Short Circuit Inspection

    Check for continuity between following:
    • CDCV harness connector terminal "A" and main relay 4-pin harness connector terminal "D" (White/Red wire) to ground.
    • CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Blue/Orange wire) and breakout box terminal No. 18 (Yellow wire) through common connector to ground.

If continuity is present, repair short circuit in suspect wire or replace wire harness.
