Diagnostic Procedures

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda MPV and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to next step.
  2. Verify Related Pending Or Stored DTCs -  Turn ignition on, engine off. Check for related pending and stored DTCs. If other DTCs are not present, go to next step. If any other DTCs are present, repair those DTCs first. Refer to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION .
  3. Inspect IAC Valve Malfunction -  Perform IAC valve inspection. See IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE under IDLE CONTROL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MAZDA6, MIATA, MPV, PROTEGE & PROTEGE5 article. If IAC valve is okay, go to next step. If IAC valve is faulty, replace IAC valve. After repair, go to step  8.
  4. Inspect Accelerator Cable Freeplay -  Turn ignition off. Check accelerator cable adjustment. If cable adjustment is okay, go to next step. If accelerator cable is out of adjustment, adjust accelerator cable freeplay as necessary. After repair, go to step  8.
  5. Inspect Actuator Cable Freeplay -  Check cruise control actuator cable free play adjustment. If cable adjustment is okay, go to next step. If cruise control actuator cable is misadjusted, adjust cruise control actuator cable freeplay as necessary. After repair, go to step  8.
  6. Inspect Vacuum Hose Connection -  Check vacuum hose connections. See appropriate vacuum diagram in VACUUM DIAGRAMS article. If problem is not present, go to next step. If any problem is present, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  8.
  7. Visual Inspect Throttle Valve -  Remove throttle body. Ensure throttle valve closes fully. If problem is not present, go to next step. If throttle body is stuck open or damaged, clean or replace as necessary. After repair, Go to next step.
  8. Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTC P0507 Completed -  Reconnect all disconnected connectors. Start engine. Using scan tool, clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Depress brake pedal for 14.1 seconds or more. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0507 is present, replace PCM. After repair, go to next step. If DTC P0507 is not present, go to next step.
  9. Verify After Repair Procedure -  Using scan tool, perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If DTC is not present, testing is complete. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate test for diagnosis and repair.
