Diagnostic Procedures
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda MPV and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Record freeze frame data. Check for service bulletins and on-line information. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to next step.
- Verify CKP Sensor Voltage - Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. Connect DVOM between CKP terminals. Check AC voltage output while cranking engine. If any AC voltage is present, go to next step. If AC voltage is not present, go to step 8.
- Check CKP Circuit Resistance - Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between CKP sensor terminals. If zero ohms is displayed, go to next step. If resistance is 315-385 ohms, check CKP sensor pulse wheel for damage. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 10. If infinity is displayed, go to step 6.
- Inspect CKP Circuit For Short To Ground - Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. Check for continuity between ground and CKP sensor harness connector terminals "A" (Black/Pink wire) and "B" (Gray/Yellow wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in suspect wire. See appropriate wiring diagram under ENGINE PERFORMANCE in WIRING DIAGRAMS. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect CKP Circuits For Shorts - Check for continuity between CKP sensor harness connector terminals. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short in wire harness. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect Poor Connection Of CKP Sensor Connector - Check CKP sensor connector. If connector is okay and connected securely, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect CKP Circuit For Open - Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector and PCM 104-pin harness connector. Connect 104-pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM harness connector only. See Figure. Check for continuity between CKP sensor harness connector terminal "A" and breakout box terminal No. 21 and between CKP sensor harness connector terminal "B" and breakout box terminal No. 22. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in suspect circuit. After repair, go to step 10.
- Inspect Poor Connection Of PCM Connector - Disconnect PCM 104-pin harness connector. Check for damaged, loose or corroded terminals. If terminals and connector are okay, go to next step. If problem is present, repair terminal or connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 10.
- Check CKP Sensor Resistance - Check resistance between CKP sensor terminals. If resistance is 315-385 ohms, check for poor connection or bent terminals. Repair as necessary. After repair, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace CKP sensor. After repair, go to next step.
- Verify Trouble Shooting Of DTC P0335 Completed - Reconnect all components. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTC. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Access MAF PID. Ensure MAF PID reading is more than 2.7 gram/sec. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0335 is present, replace PCM. After repair, go to next step. If DTC P0335 is not present, go to next step.
- Verify After Repair Procedure - Using scan tool, perform After Repair Procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE . If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
