Electronic Throttle System (MAZDA6)
Electronic throttle system uses PCM to calculate throttle valve opening in throttle body in relation to driving conditions. The electronic throttle controls the idle speed control system and cruise control system operation. Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is mounted on the accelerator pedal assembly inside vehicle. APP sensor converts throttle angle/position into an output signal and delivers an input signal to the PCM. TP sensor delivers input signals to PCM to indicate throttle valve opening. PCM uses these input signals to operate the throttle actuator for following:
- Proper operating speed in relation to accelerator pedal position.
- Engine speed to obtain proper idle.
- To set throttle valve position for cruise control operation.
In case of an electronic throttle system malfunction, Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on instrument panel will be illuminated and appropriate DTC will be stored in PCM. If malfunction exists, throttle actuator will be disengaged, allowing spring pressure to close throttle valve.
