Diagnostic Procedure

NO.23 A/C DOES NOT WORK SUFFICIENTLY [BP, BP WITH TC] DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION ACTION

  • Connect WDS or equivalent to DLC-2.
  • Turn ignition switch to ON.
  • Retrieve any DTC.
  • Is "PASSED" displayed?
Yes No DTC displayed: 
  • Go to the next step.
No DTC displayed: 
  • Go to appropriate DTC test.

  • Disconnect A/C compressor connector.
  • Start the engine and turn A/C switch on.
  • Is there correct voltage at terminal of A/C compressor magnetic clutch connector?
Specification More than 10.5 V 
Yes Inspect GND condition of magnetic clutch on A/C compressor.
  • If ground condition is okay, inspect for open circuit of magnetic clutch coil.
No Go to the next step.

  • Disconnect A/C high-pressure switch connector.
  • Connect jumper wire between terminals of A/C high-pressure switch connector.
  • Turn ignition switch to ON.
  • Turn A/C switch on and set blower fan at any speed.
  • Does A/C work?
Yes Inspect A/C high-pressure switch operation. Replace malfunctioning switch.
  • If switch is okay, go to the next step.
No Inspect following:
  • A/C switch for being stuck open
  • Open circuit between A/C pressure switch and PCM terminal 4F
  • Open circuit of blower motor fan switch and resistor (if blower motor does not operate)
  • Evaporator temperature sensor and amplifier

  • Remove jumper wire from switch connector.
  • Reconnect connector to A/C high-pressure switch.
  • Start engine and turn A/C switch on.
  • Verify fan operation.
  • Does fan operate?
Yes Inspect for stuck open A/C relay.
Replace if necessary.
No Inspect following and repair or replace if necessary:
  • Refrigerant charging amount
  • A/C compressor for being seized

  • Verify test results.
    • If okay, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
    • If malfunction remains, inspect related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
      • If vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.
      • If vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace PCM.
