Diagnostic procedure

DTC P0098 [BP WITH TC] DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED 
  • Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on repair order, then go to the next step.
2 VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY 
  • Check for related Service Bulletins and/or on-line repair information availability.
  • Is any related repair information available?
Yes Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
  • If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
3 VERIFY CURRENT SIGNAL STATUS: IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT? 
  • Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
  • Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
  • Run the vehicle under the FREEZE FRAME DATA stored condition.
  • Is the same DTC present?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Intermittent concern exists.
Perform the "INTERMITTENT CONCERNS TROUBLESHOOTING". (See INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING .)
4 INSPECT IAT NO.2 SENSOR CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION 
  • Turn the ignition switch off.
  • Disconnect IAT sensor No.2 connector.
  • Check for poor connection (damaged, pulled-out pins, corrosion, etc.).
  • Is there any malfunction?
Yes Repair or replace the terminal, then go to Step 11.
No Go to the next step.
5 INSPECT IAT SENSOR NO.2  Yes Replace IAT sensor No.2, then go to Step 11.
No Go to the next step.
6 INSPECT IAT SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER 
  • Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
  • Disconnect IAT sensor No.2 connector.
  • Measure voltage between IAT sensor No.2 terminal B (harness-side) and body ground.
  • Is voltage above 4.9 V  ?
Yes Repair or replace harness for short to power, then go to Step 11.
No Go to the next step.
7 INSPECT IAT SENSOR NO.2 GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER 
  • Measure voltage between IAT sensor No.2 terminal A (harness-side) and body ground.
  • Is voltage above 4.9 V  ?
Yes Repair or replace harness for short to power, then go to Step 11.
No Go to the next step.
8 INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR FOR POOR CONNECTION 
  • Turn the ignition switch off.
  • Disconnect PCM connector.
  • Inspect tightness of PCM terminal 4R and 4O (harness-side) using feeler tool.
  • Is there any malfunction?
Yes Repair or replace the terminal, then go to Step 11.
No Go to the next step.
9 INSPECT IAT SENSOR NO.2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT 
  • Disconnect PCM connector and IAT sensor No.2 connector.
  • Check continuity between IAT sensor No.2 terminal B (harness-side) and PCM terminal 4R (harness-side).
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace harness for open circuit, then go to Step 11.
10 INSPECT IAT SENSOR NO.2 GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT 
  • Check continuity between IAT sensor No.2.terminal A (harness-side) and PCM terminal 4O (harness-side).
  • Is there continuity?
Yes Go to the next step.
No Repair or replace harness for open circuit, then go to the next step.
11 VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0098 COMPLETED 
  • Make sure to connect all disconnected connectors.
  • Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
  • Start engine.
  • Is same DTC present?
Yes Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No Go to the next step.
12 VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE  Yes Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

No Troubleshooting completed.
