Passenger-side AIR Bag

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Before deploying air bag, inspect operating condition of Deployment Tool (49 H066 002). See INSPECTING DEPLOYMENT TOOL . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove passenger-side air bag module. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install bolts into holes located in rear of air bag module. Position air bag module inside of scrap tire with trim pad facing center of tire. See Fig 2. Using strong wire, attach air bag module to tire, wrapping wire around tire and air bag module bolts least 4 times.
  3. Stack 2 scrap tires under tire which air bag is attached. Connect deployment tool to air bag connector. Place another tire and then a scrap rim and tire assembly on top of entire stack and tie stack together with strong rope. Connect Red clip of deployment tool to positive battery terminal and Black clip of deployment tool to negative battery terminal. Verify deployment tool Red light is on.
  4. Ensure all persons are at least 20 feet from air bag module. Press deployment tool activation switch to deploy air bag. Because of heat generated from air bag deployment, wait at least 15 minutes before handling deployed air bag module. Place deployed air bag module in plastic bag, seal bag and dispose of like any other part.
