DTC 7: Passenger-Side Air Bag Module

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Figure. Inspect passenger-side air bag module connector for damage. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, replace air bag wiring harness between SAS control unit and passenger-side air bag module and go to step 4.
- Connect leads of Fuel and Thermometer Checker (49 0839 285) to passenger-side air bag module harness connector. See Fig 1. Set resistance of checker to 2 ohms. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. Check for DTCs. If DTC 7 is displayed, go to next step. If DTC 7 is not displayed, replace passenger-side air bag module and go to step 4. See PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove steering column covers and disconnect lower clockspring connector. See Figure. Access and disconnect SAS control unit connector. See SAS CONTROL UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check wiring harness between SAS control unit connector, terminal "K" (Gray/Orange wire) and passenger-side air bag connector, terminal "A" (Red wire) for short to ground, power or open circuit. See Fig 1. Check wiring harness between SAS control unit connector, terminal "I" (Red wire) and passenger-side air bag connector, terminal "B" for short to ground, power or open circuit. If wiring is okay, replace SAS control unit and go to next step. If wiring harness is faulty, replace wiring harness between passenger-side air bag module and SAS control unit and go to next step. - Reinstall all components and reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
