DTC 35: SAS Control Unit-To-Right Side Air Bag Sensor Malfunction

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect right and left side air bag module connectors, located under right and left front seats. Access right and left side air bag sensors and disconnect connectors. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check for continuity between right air bag sensor connector, terminal "G" and left air bag sensor connector, terminal "Y". See Figure. If there is continuity, go to next step. If there is not continuity, replace air bag wiring harness between right and left side air bag sensors and go to step  5.
  2. Check for continuity between left air bag sensor connector, terminals "V" and "Y". See Figure. If there is not continuity, go to next step. If there is continuity, replace left side air bag sensor and go to step  5. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Reconnect right side air bag sensor connector. Reconnect negative battery cable and turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and right side air bag sensor connector, terminal "G". See Figure. If voltage is approximately 5 volts, replace right side air bag sensor and go to step  5. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If voltage is not approximately 5 volts, go to next step.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and right side air bag sensor connector, terminals "Z" and "AB". See Figure. If voltage is below 8 volts, repair or replace wire harness as necessary between battery and right side air bag sensor. Check battery and charging system for malfunctions and repair as necessary. Go to next step. If voltage is above 8 volts, replace right side air bag sensor and go to next step. See SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Reinstall all components and reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
