Air Bag Warning Light Does Not Come On When Ignition Is Turned On

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Turn ignition on. Check instrument cluster indicator and warning lights. If instrument cluster indicator and warning lights come on, go to next step. If instrument cluster indicator and warning lights do not come on, inspect instrument cluster fuses, wiring harness, grounds and connectors. Repair as necessary and go to step 6.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove meter hood and instrument cluster. Ensure instrument cluster 12-pin connector is securely connected. Ensure AIR BAG warning light bulb is securely installed and is not burned out. Inspect instrument cluster 12-pin connector terminal 1E (Red/Green wire) and terminal 3N (Yellow/Red wire) for damage. See Fig 1. If instrument cluster connectors and terminals and AIR BAG warning light bulb are not damaged, go to next step. If instrument cluster connectors and terminals and AIR BAG warning light bulb are damaged, repair as necessary and go to step 6.
- Check continuity between terminal 1E of 12-pin printed circuit plate connector and terminal 3N of 14-pin printed circuit plate connector of instrument cluster. See Fig 1. If there is continuity, go to next step. If there is no continuity, replace printed circuit plate and go to step 6.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove steering column covers. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors. See Figure. Remove glove box. Disconnect passenger-side air bag module connector. See Fig 2. Access and disconnect SAS control unit connector. See SAS CONTROL UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check if terminal "Q" (Red/Green wire) of SAS control unit connector is securely connected to connector and is not damaged. See Fig 3. If okay, go to next step. If terminal "Q" is not securely connected to connector or is damaged, replace air bag wiring harness, and go to step 6.
- Check for open circuit or short to power between terminal "Q" (Red/Green wire) of SAS control unit connector and terminal 1E (Red/Green wire) of instrument cluster connector. If open circuit or short to power does not exist, replace SAS control unit and go to next step. See SAS CONTROL UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If open circuit or short to power does exist, replace air bag wiring harness and go to next step.
- Reinstall all components and reconnect all connectors. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
