Removal (LA4A-EL)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the ATF. Remove the battery and battery tray. See Figure . Remove the fresh-air duct and air cleaner assembly. See Figure .
  2. Remove the left wheel and tire. Remove the splash shield. Disconnect the Transaxle Range (TR) switch harness connector. Disconnect the solenoid body harness connector.
  3. Remove the oil cooler hose. See AUXILIARY OIL COOLER HOSES & PIPES (LA4A-EL)  . Slightly lift valve body and remove "Z" link. See Fig 5 . Remove the valve body cover.
  4. Remove the valve body mounting bolts. See Fig 1 . Release valve body harness connector clips. See Fig 2 . Do not pull off the connector wires or use a hammer on the harness connector. Remove harness connector. See Fig 3 . Remove the valve body assembly.
  5. If the thermostatic oil level valve must be removed, remove the bolt and the bracket. Pull the thermostatic oil level valve straight out of the transaxle case. See Fig 4 .
