Installation (LA4A-EL)

  1. If the thermostatic oil level valve was removed, insert it into the transaxle case and install the bracket and bolt. See Figure . Tighten thermostatic oil level valve bracket and bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install a new O-ring on the solenoid harness connector and lightly coat the O-ring with petroleum jelly. Do not pull wires or damage harness connector body. Place the valve body slightly away from the transaxle case and push the solenoid body connector into its bore.
  3. Align the "Z" link in the manual valve. See Figure . Install the 12 mounting bolts. Tighten the valve body mounting bolts in the sequence shown. See Figure . Tighten valve body bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Loosen nut on ball stud of manual valve detent lever actuating rod assembly. See Fig 1 . Remove manual detent lever bolt and lever assembly. Using Special Service Tool (SST) 49-UN01-085, move manual control lever shaft to Drive position. See Fig 2 . Install pin to hold the SST in position. Move manual valve detent lever assembly to Drive position.
  5. Snug nut on ball stud. Remove shifter pin. Rotate SST until socket can be installed on nut. Tighten nut on ball stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Rotate lever back to Drive position and recheck adjustment. Remove pin and alignment tool.
  6. Install manual detent lever assembly. Tighten manual control lever bolt to specification. Install valve body cover (side cover) with NEW gasket. Tighten bolts in sequence to specification. See Fig 3 . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install the oil cooler hose. See AUXILIARY OIL COOLER HOSES & PIPES (LA4A-EL)  . Install the fresh-air duct and air cleaner assembly. See Figure . Install the battery tray and battery. See Figure .
  8. Fill the transaxle with appropriate fluid to proper level and check for correct transaxle operation. See LUBRICATION  . Inspect for leakage of ATF from all connecting points. Connect the negative battery cable. Perform PERFORMANCE TESTS in LA4A-EL DIAGNOSIS article.
