Shift Cable: Installation

CAUTION:
Bending the shift cable will damage the cable and cause it to become loose during shifting. See Fig 1
. When handling and installing the shift cable, hold it straight.
- To install, reverse order of removal. See Figure . Install the SAS control module bracket. See MAZDA - AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS.
- Install the heater unit. See HEATER UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . Install the front console. See Figure . Install the lower panel. See Figure .
- Install the side panel. Install the steering column covers. Install the shift cable to the gearshift lever. See Figure . On 2.5L (KL) models, shift the gearshift lever and manual selector lever to Park position. On 2.0L (FS) models, shift the gearshift lever and manual selector lever to Drive position.
- Install the shift cable to the cable bracket. Install the clip to the shift cable. Connect the shift cable to the manual selector lever on the transaxle. Connect the negative battery cable.
