2/4 Band Servo (La4A-El): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Lubricate the 2/4 servo piston, servo cover, servo cover seal, and servo case bore with ATF or petroleum jelly to aid in the installation and prevent cutting of the seal. Install the 2/4 servo piston and return spring into the transaxle case. Install the SST. See Figure .
  2. Tighten the center screw to compress the 2/4 servo into the bore. If the cover will not seat deep enough in the bore to install the servo cover retaining ring, use a blunt punch and gently tap the cover around the outer edge with the punch until the retaining ring groove is fully exposed.
  3. Install the servo cover retaining ring into transaxle case. Remove the SST. Lower the vehicle. Fill the transaxle with appropriate fluid to proper level and check for correct transaxle operation. See LUBRICATION  .
