Preliminary Inspection

Automatic transaxle fault can be caused by either engine or transaxle problems. Isolate fault to engine or transaxle before proceeding with trouble shooting. Prior to trouble shooting, check and adjust shift linkage, TR switch and idle speed, as needed. Ensure transaxle fluid level is correct. Check tires for correct inflation.

Fluid level should be checked with vehicle on level surface. Start engine and shift transaxle into each gear position, ensuring each gear engages. Check fluid level in Park position with engine at idle. Fluid level should be within HOT range area of dipstick. See Fig 1. Ensure the following:
