"S", L" & "P" Position Tests

  1. Shift gearshift lever to "S" position. Accelerate vehicle at half throttle and WOT. Ensure upshifts and downshifts are obtained at shift points indicated. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Drive vehicle in 3rd and 2nd gears to verify kickdown occurs at shift points indicated.
  2. Decelerate vehicle and verify engine braking effect is felt in 3rd gear. Drive vehicle to verify TCC operation is obtained at operation points indicated. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Select HOLD mode. Accelerate vehicle to half and WOT, and verify 2nd gear is held. Shift points must be as indicated.
  3. Shift gearshift lever to "L" position. Accelerate vehicle at half and WOT. Ensure upshifts and downshifts are obtained at shift points indicated. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Drive vehicle in 2nd gear to verify kickdown occurs at shift points indicated.
  4. Decelerate vehicle and verify engine braking effect is felt in 2nd gear. Drive vehicle to verify TCC operation is obtained at operation points indicated. See SHIFT SPEED SPECIFICATIONS . Select HOLD mode. Accelerate vehicle to half and WOT, and verify 1st gear is held. Shift points must be as indicated. Decelerate vehicle to verify engine braking effect is felt.
  5. Shift into "P" position on a gentle slope. Release brake. Ensure vehicle does not roll.

No Lock-Up Stuck TCC Lock-Up Solenoid Valve, Stuck TCC Lock-Up Shift Valve
Incorrect Shift Point Misadjusted TP Sensor, Stuck Shift Valves
Excessive Shift Shock Or Slippage Stuck Accumulators, Stuck Or Missing One-Way Check Valve, Worn Clutches, Brakes Or One-Way Clutch
No Engine Braking Worn Clutches Or Brakes
