Off-Vehicle Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda Millenia and 2001 Mazda Millenia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Turn ignition off. Remove valve body cover. Disconnect TFT sensor connector. Remove TFT sensor. See Fig 1. Connect DVOM test leads to TFT sensor terminals. Place TFT sensor and a thermometer in a container of ATF and heat ATF gradually. See Fig 2. DO NOT allow thermometer or TFT sensor to touch bottom of container. Monitor thermometer and ohmmeter readings. Resistance should decrease as fluid temperature increases. See TRANSAXLE FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. If resistance is not within specification, replace TFT sensor. If resistance is within specification, repair or replace transaxle internal harness to TFT sensor as necessary.
