Diagnostic Procedure

- Test drive vehicle to increase transaxle fluid temperature to at least 50°F (10°C). Run KOEO SELF-TEST and KOER SELF TEST. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1711 is still present, go to next step. If DTC P1711 is no longer present, fluid was not at operating temperature. No repairs are necessary. Go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between pin "A" and pin "C" on harness side of TP sensor connector. See Fig 1. If voltage is not 4-6 volts, see appropriate PIN VOLTAGE/PID VALUE CHARTS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If voltage is 4-6 volts, reconnect TP sensor, and go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle to warm transaxle fluid. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Inspect connector for damaged pins, corrosion and loose wires. Install breakout box, leaving PCM disconnected. Measure resistance between breakout box test pins No. 37 and 91. Allow transaxle to cool and repeat measurement. Last measurement should be greater than first measurement. Confirm measurements correspond to values shown in appropriate TFT SENSOR TEMPERATURE/RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table under diagnostic test for DTC P0712: TFT SENSOR CIRCUIT SHORTED OR DTC P1713: TFT SENSOR LOW TEMPERATURE INPUT . Remove breakout box. If measurements are not within specifications, reconnect PCM and go to next step. If measurements are within specifications, replace PCM. After repairs, go to step 6.
- Disconnect transaxle harness connector. Inspect condition of connector, and repair as needed. Connect transmission tester. Set tester to BENCH mode, and to OHMS CHECK mode. Connect DVOM to TFT sensor jacks on tester. Record TFT sensor resistance. If transaxle was cold, test drive vehicle to warm fluid and repeat resistance measurement. Compare resistance measurements to values shown in appropriate TFT SENSOR TEMPERATURE/RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS table under diagnostic test for DTC P0712: TFT SENSOR CIRCUIT SHORTED OR DTC P1713: TFT SENSOR LOW TEMPERATURE INPUT . If resistance is are not as specified, replace solenoid body assembly. After repairs, go to step 6. If resistance is as specified, go to next step.
- With transmission tester still connected, check for continuity between TFT sensor jacks on tester and ground. If continuity exists, replace solenoid body assembly. After repairs, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Connect all components. Disconnect breakout box and transmission tester. Erase all DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Record continuous memory DTCs and freeze frame data. Perform KOEO and KOER self-tests. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (QUICK TEST) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1711 is still present, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If no DTCs are present but symptoms still exist, see TROUBLE SHOOTING .
CAUTION:
On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers after PCM replacement. See PROGRAMMING .
