Band Servo: Disassembly/Assembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2005 Mazda 6, 2005 Mazda 3, 2004 Mazda 6, 2004 Mazda 3, and 2003 Mazda Protege5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove servo retainer, "O" ring and servo piston. See Fig 1.
  2. Remove servo return spring, band strut and 2-4 brake band.
  3. Measure spring free length. See BAND SERVO SPRING SPECIFICATIONS  table. If not within specifications, replace spring.
  4. Install the servo return spring to the transaxle case. Install the servo piston to the transaxle case.
  5. Apply ATF to NEW "O" ring (inside diameter should be 2.76" (70.2 mm) and install it to the transaxle case.
  6. Install servo retainer. Tighten bolts evenly and gradually to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
