Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626 and 2001 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove square head plug. Connect Oil Pressure Gauge Set (49-0379-400B), Oil Pressure Gauge (49-B019-901) and Adapter (49-H019-002) to line pressure inspection port. Start engine. Move gearshift lever to "D" position and read line pressure at idle.
  2. Depress accelerator fully and read line pressure as soon as RPM becomes constant, then release accelerator pedal. Move gearshift lever to "N" position and idle engine for at least one minute, to cool fluid.
  3. Read line pressure at idle and stall RPM for each gear position in the same manner. For stall speed pressure test, replace oil pressure gauge with Oil Pressure Gauge (49-B019-902). Move gearshift lever to "P" position.
  4. Turn engine off. Remove oil pressure gauge set, oil pressure gauge and adapter. Install NEW square head plug in line pressure inspection port. Tighten plug to 44-86 INCH lbs. (5-9.7 N.m). Ensure pressures are within specification. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS . If pressures are not to specification, diagnose as necessary. See HYDRAULIC PRESSURE TEST RESULTS  table.
