O/D Off Switch

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mazda 626 and 2001 Mazda 626. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove center console to access O/D OFF switch connector. DO NOT disconnect O/D OFF switch connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using a DVOM, backprobe harness connector. With O/D OFF switch in OFF position (O/D OFF indicator off), measure voltage between chassis ground and O/D OFF switch harness connector terminal "A". See Fig 1. Battery voltage should be present. Depress O/D OFF switch (O/D OFF indicator on). Zero volts should be present. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check circuits to ground and PCM. Repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect O/D OFF switch connector. See Fig 1. Check for continuity between terminals "A" and "B" on O/D OFF switch connector. Continuity should not exist with O/D OFF switch in OFF position. Depress O/D OFF switch (ON position). Continuity should exist. If continuity is as specified, switch is okay. If continuity is not as specified, replace O/D OFF switch.
