Cylinder Head Gasket Replacement: Notes

WARNING:
  • Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can very easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
  • Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete the "Fuel Line Safety Procedure". (See FUEL LINE SAFETY PROCEDURE .)
  1. Remove the timing chain. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  2. Remove the high-tension lead. (if equipped) (See HIGH-TENSION LEAD REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3 (WITH DEI SYSTEM)] .)
  3. Disconnect the generator, but do not remove it from the vehicle. Fix the generator using a rope to prevent it from falling. (See GENERATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  4. Remove the front pipe. (See EXHAUST SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  5. Remove the intake manifold. (See INTAKE AIR SYSTEM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
  6. Disconnect the heater hose, bypass hose, and radiator hose.
  7. To firmly support the engine, first set the engine jack and attachment to the oil pan.

  8. Remove in the order indicated in the table.

  9. Install in the reverse order of removal.
  10. Inspect the compression. (See COMPRESSION INSPECTION .)
