Diagnostic procedure

NO. 16 HIGH OIL CONSUMPTION/LEAKAGE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

STEP	INSPECTION	RESULTS	ACTION
1	Remove and shake PCV valve. Does PCV valve rattle	Yes	Go to the next step.
1	Remove and shake PCV valve. Does PCV valve rattle	No	Replace PCV valve.
2	Inspect for the following: External leakage Proper dipstick Proper engine oil viscosity Are all items normal?	Yes	Inspect internal engine parts such as valves, valve guides, valve stem seals, cylinder head drain passage, and piston rings.
2		No	Service if necessary. Repeat Step 2.
3	Verify test results. If okay, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. If malfunction remains, inspect related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis. If vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed. If vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, reprogram PCM if later calibration is available. Retest.
