Low Oil Pressure Warning Indicator

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The low oil pressure warning indicator is hard-wired to the oil pressure switch and is identified by an oil can symbol on the instrument cluster. The oil pressure switch is a normally closed switch. When the engine is off or has no oil pressure the switch is closed, providing a ground path to turn on the light. When the engine is running and there is oil pressure present, the switch is opened and no ground is provided.
