Drive Axle Shafts: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Remove rear coil spring. See COIL SPRING in REAR SUSPENSION article. Remove nuts, and separate upper and lower ball joints from knuckle. Mark knuckle bolt-to-cam assembly relationship, and remove rear knuckle from vehicle.
- Apply anti-seize compound onto axle shaft before removing nut, in order to avoid damage to axle shaft. Remove and discard nut. Using Front Hub Remover (205-D070), separate axle shaft from knuckle. Using CV Joint Puller (205-241), remove axle shaft.
