Drive Axle Shafts: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove rear coil spring. See COIL SPRING in REAR SUSPENSION article. Remove nuts, and separate upper and lower ball joints from knuckle. Mark knuckle bolt-to-cam assembly relationship, and remove rear knuckle from vehicle.
  2. Apply anti-seize compound onto axle shaft before removing nut, in order to avoid damage to axle shaft. Remove and discard nut. Using Front Hub Remover (205-D070), separate axle shaft from knuckle. Using CV Joint Puller (205-241), remove axle shaft.
