Millenia 2.3L

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mazda Protege5, 2002 Mazda Protege, 2002 Mazda Millenia, 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. MAP sensor is located in right rear of engine compartment. Disconnect PCM harness connectors and install Adapter Harness (49-TO18-905) to PCM harness connectors and then to PCM. Turn ignition switch on. Connect DVOM to appropriate PCM terminal.
  2. Decrease applied pressure from +29.5 in. Hg to -25.6 in. Hg of vacuum applied to MAP sensor. Voltage at PCM terminal 3U should decrease as specified. See MAP SENSOR VOLTAGE  table. If all voltage readings are as specified, replace MAP sensor. If any voltage reading is not as specified, go to next step.
NOTE: Output voltage varies with measuring condition.
    • Input voltage: 5.0 volts
    • Atmospheric pressure: 29.9 in. Hg
    • Outside temperature: 77°F (25°C)
    MAP SENSOR VOLTAGE

    Applied Pressure/Vacuum Volts
    -25.6 in. Hg 0.9-1.1
    0 in. Hg 2.37-2.88
    +29.5 in. Hg 4.05-4.95
  3. Turn ignition switch off. Check continuity of following circuits:
    • Black/Yellow wire between PCM harness connector terminal 3AB and MAP sensor harness connector terminal "A".
    • Green/Orange wire between PCM harness connector terminal 3U and MAP sensor harness connector terminal "B".
    • Light Green/Red wire between PCM harness connector terminal 3A and MAP sensor harness connector terminal "C".

If continuity is present in all circuits, go to next step. If continuity is not present in one or more circuits, repair wiring harness as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

  4. Turn ignition switch on. Measure voltage at MAP sensor harness connector terminal "B". Voltage should be a constant 4.5-5.5 volts. Measure voltage at MAP sensor harness connector terminal "A" (ground). Voltage should be less than one volt. If voltage is as specified, replace MAP sensor. If voltage is not as specified, repair wiring harness as necessary.
