Knock Sensor: MPV
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mazda Protege5, 2002 Mazda Protege, 2002 Mazda Millenia, 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Disconnect Knock Sensor (KS) connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between KS terminals "A" (Red wire) and "B" (Black wire). Resistance should be about 560,000 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, replace KS. If KS is within specification, check for open or short circuit in wiring harness. Disconnect PCM and install 104-Pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) between PCM and PCM harness connector. See Figure . Perform following circuit inspections:
- Open Circuit Inspection
Check for continuity between KS terminal "A" (Blue/White wire) and breakout box terminal No. 57 and between KS terminal "B" (Red/White wire) and breakout box terminal No. 4. If continuity is not present, repair or replace open wiring harness as necessary. - Short Circuit Inspection
Check for continuity between KS terminals "A" or "B" and power and between KS terminals "A" or "B" and ground. If continuity is present, repair or replace shorted wiring harness as necessary.
