626 2.0L (Using New Generation Star Scan Tool)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mazda Protege5, 2002 Mazda Protege, 2002 Mazda Millenia, 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) scan tool to DLC-2. DLC-2 is located under left side of instrument panel, right of steering column. Access DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK menu, and select PCM. Select PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD.
  2. Voltage Inspection

Turn ignition switch on. Select O2S11 PID (front HO2S) or O2S12 PID (rear HO2S). See HO2S VOLTAGE (626 2.0L)  . If voltage is not as specified, check wiring harness between PCM and HO2S. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Also check intake-air system, fuel system and self-diagnostic system. Repair as necessary. If system or wiring harness problems are not present, replace HO2S.
  3. HO2S Heater Resistance Inspection

Disconnect front and rear HO2S connectors. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between appropriate HO2S 4-pin connector terminals "C" and "D". See Figure . Resistance should be about 6 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace HO2S. If resistance reading is as specified, check related harness or connectors.
