Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check PSP SW PID data. Ensure steering wheel is in straight ahead position. If PSP SW PID indicates on, go to next step. If PSP SW PID indicates off, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PSP switch connector. Turn ignition on. If PSP SW PID indicates on, go to next step. If PSP SW PID indicates off, replace PSP switch and go to step 5 .
- Disconnect PCM connector. Check for continuity between ground and PSP switch harness connector Blue/Yellow wire terminal. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Blue/Yellow wire between PSP switch and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Reconnect all electrical connections. Start engine. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Drive vehicle at speeds more than 37.4 MPH for one minute. Ensure ECT PID indicates more that 140°F (60°C). Recheck DTCs. If DTC P1652 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1652 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
