Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOEO or KOER self-test. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1451 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1451 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Turn ignition off and on. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1451 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1451 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CDCV valve connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  10 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  4. Measure resistance between CDCV terminals. If resistance is 17-21 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 17-21 ohms, replace CV solenoid and go to step  10 .
  5. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and CDCV harness connector terminal "A" (Red/Black wire). If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to step  10 .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  10 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  7. Check for continuity between ground and CDCV harness connector terminal "B" (Light Green wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Light Green wire between PCM and CDCV. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to step  10 .
  8. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is present, repair short to power in Light Green wire between PCM and CDCV. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to step  10 . If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
  9. Turn ignition off. Reconnect CDCV solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector terminal No. 18 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Light Green wire between PCM and CDCV. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  10. Reconnect all connections. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOEO or KOER self-test. If DTC P1451 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1451 is not present, go to next step.
  11. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
