Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0112 or P0113 is present, repair that problem first. See DTC P0112: INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR CIRCUIT, LOW INPUT or DTC P0113: INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR CIRCUIT, HIGH INPUT . If DTC P0112 or P0113 is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check IAT V PID data. While observing IAT V PID, tap on IAT sensor to simulate road shock. Wiggle IAT sensor connector. If no change in reading occurs, go to next step. If any change in reading occurs, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect IAT sensor connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 5 . If connector terminals are okay, replace IAT sensor.
- Reconnect all connections. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1112 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1112 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
