Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOER or KOEO self-test. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1101 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1101 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0102 or P0103 is present, repair that problem first. See DTC P0102: MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR CIRCUIT, LOW INPUT or DTC P0103: MASS AIRFLOW (MAF) SENSOR CIRCUIT, HIGH INPUT . If DTC P0102 or P0103 is not present, go to next step.
- DTC P1101 may be set by garage exhaust ventilation system. Remove ventilation system while performing KOEO self-test. Perform KOEO self-test, If DTC P1101 is present, go to step 5 . If DTC P1101 is not present, go to next step.
- Start engine. Using scan tool, select MAF V PID data. If MAF V PID data is .23-4.6 volts, go to next step. If MAF V PID data is not .23-4.6 volts, check for broken or loose air intake pipe or hose clamps. Check for cracks or holes in air intake pipe hose. Repair or replace as necessary and go to next step.
- Start engine. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOER or KOEO self-test. If DTC P1101 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1101 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
