Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Start engine. Using scan tool, select BOO PID data. While observing BOO PID data, apply and release brake pedal. If BOO PID value switches between on and off, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article. If BOO PID value does not switch between on and off, go to next step.
- Check brake light operation. Repair as necessary and go to step 5 . If brake light is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check BOO PID data. Apply brake pedal several times. If BOO PID stays on continuously, repair short to power in brake switch signal circuit and go to next step. If BOO PID stays off continuously, repair open brake switch signal circuit and go to next step. If BOO PID switches on when brake pedal is depressed and off when brake pedal is released, go to next step.
- Reconnect all connections. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P703 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P703 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
