- Check for DTCs during KOEO and KOER self-test. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs present during KOEO or KOER self-test. If any DTCs are present, go to appropriate test first. If no other DTC is present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect vacuum gauge to intake manifold vacuum source near purge control system. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. If manifold vacuum increases to more than 18 in. Hg, go to next step. If manifold vacuum does not increase to more than 18 in. Hg, check for loose or damaged vacuum hose or vacuum hose clamps. Repair as necessary and go to step 23 .
- Ensure OEM fuel filler cap is installed correctly. Correct as necessary and go to step 23 . If cap is an OEM cap and is installed correctly, go to next step.
- Inspect all EVAP system vacuum hoses. Ensure hoses are installed correctly and are in good condition. Correct as necessary and go to step 23 . If all vacuum hoses are in good condition, go to next step.
- Inspect purge solenoid valve operation and catch tank condition. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Replace component(s) as necessary and go to step 23 . If all components are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect vacuum gauge to intake manifold vacuum source for purge control system. Start engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature. If manifold vacuum increases to more than 18 in. Hg, go to next step. If manifold vacuum does not increase to more than 18 in. Hg, check for loose or damaged components. Repair as necessary and go to step 23 .
- Inspect charcoal canister condition. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Replace charcoal canister as necessary and go to step 23 . If charcoal canister is okay, go to next step.
- Clamp off hose on tank side of charcoal canister. Remove filler cap. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select FTP V PID data. If FTP PID value is equal to atmospheric pressure (approximately 2.42-2.58 volts), install filler cap and go to step 14 . If FTP PID voltage is not equal to atmospheric pressure (approximately 2.42-2.58 volts), install filler cap and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect FTP sensor connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between FTP harness connector terminals "B" (Pink/Green wire) and "C" (Gray/Red wire). Turn ignition on. If scan tool indicates that a communication concern is present, immediately remove fused jumper wire and go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that a communication concern is present, using scan tool, select FTP V PID data. If FTP V PID value is 4.5-5.5 volts, replace FTP sensor and go to step 23 . If FTP V PID value is not 4-6 volts, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between FTP harness connector terminals "A" (Black/Yellow wire) and "C" (Gray/Red wire). If 4.5-5.5 volts is present, go to next step. If 4.5-5.5 volts is not present, repair short or open in Black/Yellow wire or Gray/Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 23 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Inspect connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary. Measure resistance between PCM harness connector terminals No. 62 (Pink/Green wire) and 91 (Black/Yellow wire). See Figure . Also measure resistance between PCM harness connector terminal No. 62 (Pink/Green wire) and terminals No. 51 (Black/Blue wire) and 76 (Black/Red wire), individually. Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is not as specified, repair short in appropriate circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 23 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect vacuum hose from charcoal canister, on fuel tank side. Connect vacuum pump to vacuum hose. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select FTP V PID data. Apply vacuum while monitoring FTP V PID data. If FTP V PID value stays constant, go to step 18 . If FTP V PID value does not stay constant, go to next step.
- Inspect all EVAP system vacuum hoses. Ensure hoses are installed correctly and are in good condition. Correct as necessary and go to step 23 . If all vacuum hoses are in good condition, go to next step.
- Inspect pressure control valve operation and fuel-filler pipe condition. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Replace component(s) as necessary and go to step 23 . If all components are okay, go to next step.
- Inspect fuel tank. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. If fuel tank is okay, check for poorly connected fuel tank components. Repair or replace as necessary and go to step 23 . If fuel tank and components are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Ensure fuel tank side vacuum hose is disconnected from charcoal canister and vacuum pump connected to vacuum hose. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select FTP V PID data. Apply 1.97 in. Hg while monitoring FTP V PID data. If FTP V PID value stays .38-.62 volt for one minute, go to step 22 . If FTP V PID value does not stay .38-.62 volt for one minute, go to next step.
