Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Disconnect CKP connector. Check for AC voltage between CKP connector terminals while cranking engine. If AC voltage is present, go to step 8 . If AC voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Check air gap between CKP sensor and reluctor. If air gap is .020-.059" (.5-1.5 mm), go to next step If air gap is not as specified, adjust air gap and go to step 9 .
- Check resistance between CKP connector terminals. If resistance is not about 560 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is about 560 ohms, check crankshaft pulley and reluctor for damage. Replace as necessary and go step 9 .
- Disconnect PCM connector. Check for continuity between ground and each CKP harness connector terminals, individually. If continuity is not present at each at either terminal, go to next step. If continuity is present at either terminal, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 9 .
- Check for continuity between CKP harness connector terminals. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short between circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 9 .
- Check for damaged or corroded PCM connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 9 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Check for continuity of Blue wire between CKP harness connector and PCM harness connector terminal No. 21. See Figure . Also check for continuity of Green wire between CKP harness connector and PCM harness connector terminal No. 22. If continuity is present in both wires, go to next step. If continuity is not present in either wire, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all connections. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0320 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P0320 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
