Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary. Go to step 3 .
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0102 is present, go to step 4 . If DTC P0102 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Connect scan tool. Start engine. Using scan tool, check MAF V PID data. If .36-4.89 volts is not present, go to next step. If .39-4.89 volts is present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect MAF sensor connector. Check for damaged or corroded MAF sensor connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 10 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and MAF sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Red/Black wire). See Fig 1 . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair short ground or open circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to step 10 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect main relay. Main relay is located in main fuse block at left side of engine compartment. See Figure . Check for continuity of Red/Black wire between MAF sensor harness connector terminal "B" and main relay. See Fig 1 . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Red/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 10 .
- Disconnect PCM connector. Check for damaged or corroded PCM connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 10 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Check for continuity of Red/Green wire between MAF sensor harness connector terminal "E" and PCM harness connector terminal No. 88. See Fig 1 and Figure . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Red/Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 10 .
- Check for continuity between ground and MAF harness connector terminal "E" (Red/Green wire). Also check for continuity between MAF harness connector terminals "E" (Red/Green wire) and "D" (Brown/Red wire). If continuity is not present, replace MAF sensor and go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in suspect circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to next step.
- Reconnect all connections. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0102 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P0102 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
