Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOEO or KOER self-test. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1250 is present, go to next step. If DTC P1250 is not present, problem is intermittent. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Disconnect tube located between PRC solenoid valve and intake manifold from PRC solenoid valve. PRC solenoid valve is located on top left side of plenum chamber. Connect vacuum pump to PRC solenoid valve and apply vacuum for 5 seconds. If vacuum is held for 5 seconds, go to step  4 . If vacuum is not held for 5 seconds, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PRC solenoid valve connector. Reapply vacuum for 5 seconds. If vacuum is held for 5 seconds, repair short to ground in Blue/Yellow wire between PCM connector terminal No. 19 and PRC solenoid valve connector terminal "B". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to step  8 . If vacuum is not held for 5 seconds, replace PRC solenoid valve and go to step  8 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PRC solenoid valve connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  8 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  5. Measure resistance between PRC solenoid valve connector terminals. If resistance is 37-43 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 37-43 ohms, replace PRC solenoid valve and go to step  8 .
  6. Disconnect PCM connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  8 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect PRC solenoid valve connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and PCM harness connector terminal No. 19 (Blue/Yellow wire). See Figure . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Blue/Yellow wire between PCM connector terminal No. 19 and PRC solenoid valve connector terminal "B". See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connections. Check for DTCs during KOEO or KOER self-test. If DTC P1250 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1250 is not present, go to next step.
  9. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
