Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0122 or P0123 is present, repair that problem first. See DTC P0122: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR, LOW INPUT  or DTC P0123: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR, HIGH INPUT  . If DTC P0122 or P0123 is not present, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check TP V PID data. While observing TP V PID, tap on sensor to simulate road shock. Wiggle sensor connector. If no change in reading occurs, go to step  5 . If any change in reading occurs, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  5 . If connector terminals are okay, replace TP sensor.
  5. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1125 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1125 is not present, go to next step.
  6. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
