Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Ensure FREEZE FRAME DATA has been recorded. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0122 or P0123 is present, repair that problem first. See DTC P0122: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR, LOW INPUT or DTC P0123: THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR, HIGH INPUT . If DTC P0122 or P0123 is not present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, check TP V PID data. While observing TP V PID, tap on sensor to simulate road shock. Wiggle sensor connector. If no change in reading occurs, go to step 5 . If any change in reading occurs, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TP sensor connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 5 . If connector terminals are okay, replace TP sensor.
- Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1125 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1125 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
