Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOEO or KOER self-test. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0511 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0511 is not present, problem is intermittent. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
  2. Turn ignition off. Inspect IAC valve electrical connector. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, repair connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  7 .
  3. Disconnect IAC valve electrical connector. Inspect connector for damaged, pushed out terminals and corrosion. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  7 .
  4. Disconnect PCM connector. Inspect PCM connector for damaged, pushed out terminals and corrosion. Specifically check PCM connector terminals No. 20 and 83. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  7 .
  5. Reconnect PCM connector. Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, check voltage on IAC valve connector (harness side) terminal "B" (Green/Red wire). Voltage should be approximately B+. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not okay, repair wiring harness as necessary. After repair, go to step  7 .
  6. Turn ignition switch off. Connect 104-pin Breakout Box (49-UN01-130) to PCM 104-pin harness connector only. Leave PCM disconnected. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, check voltage on breakout box terminal No. 83. Voltage should be approximately B+. If voltage is okay, go to next step. If voltage is not okay, repair wiring harness short to ground. After repair, go to step  7 .
  7. Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition on with engine off. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P0511 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0511 is not present, go to next step.
  8. Cycle ignition switch from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no other DTCs are present, testing is complete. If any other DTC is present, go to applicable test and repair.
