Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOER self-test. If DTC P0460 is present, go to next step. If DTC P0460 is not present, problem is intermittent. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect in-line 16-pin connector located at back of joint box. See Figure . Check for damaged or corroded in-line 16-pin connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 11 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select FLI V PID data. If FLI V PID is about 5 volts, go to next step. If FLI V PID indicates battery voltage, repair short to power in suspect circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . If FLI V PID indicated zero volts, repair short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between in-line 16-pin female connector terminal "B" (Green/Yellow wire) and ground. If about 5 volts is present, go to next step. If about 5 volts is not present, repair open Green/Yellow wire between in-line 16-pin female connector and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Turn ignition off. Connect a fused jumper wire between in-line 16-pin female connector terminals "A" (Black/Orange wire) and "B" (Green/Yellow wire). Using scan tool, select FLI V PID data. If FLI V PID indicated zero volts, go to next step. If FLI V PID did not indicate zero volts, repair open in Black/Orange wire between in-line 16-pin female connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel gauge sender unit connector. Check for loose, damaged or corroded connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step 11 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect in-line 16-pin connector. Using scan tool, select FLI V PID data. If FLI V PID is about 5 volts, go to next step. If FLI V PID indicates battery voltage, repair short to power in suspect circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 . If FLI V PID indicated zero volts, repair short to ground in suspect circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Measure voltage between fuel gauge sender unit harness connector terminal "B" (Green/Yellow wire) and ground. If 5 volts is present, go to next step. If 5 volts is not present, repair open in Green/Yellow wire between fuel gauge sender unit and in-line 16-pin female connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Connect a fused jumper wire between fuel gauge sender unit harness connector terminals "B" (Green/Yellow wire) and "C" (Black/Orange wire). Using scan tool, select FLI V PID data. If FLI V PID indicated zero volts, go to next step. If FLI V PID did not indicate zero volts, repair open in Black/Orange wire between fuel gauge sender unit and in-line 16-pin female connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step 11 .
- Inspect fuel gauge sender unit operation. See SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - MIATA, MILLENIA, MPV, PROTEGE, PROTEGE5 & 626 article. Replace fuel gauge sender unit as necessary and go to next step. If fuel gauge sender unit is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect all connections. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs during KOER self-test. If DTC P0460 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES - IMPORT article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P0460 is not present, go to next step.
- Perform DTC confirmation procedure. See DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
